Farming and Food Standards Petition Background:

The Prime Minister, Trump and the Government have all said good things about farming and food standards in a post-Brexit trade deal. However, signs are increasing that cheap imports with lower food standards will be part of the price for a US trade deal. Warm words about standards aren’t enough to protect the interests of British farming and our food production industry.

Business Insider: “British farmers fear Boris Johnson will surrender UK food standards to Trump in talks with ‘fearsome’ US negotiators

We the undersigned urge Owen Paterson MP to back British Food and Farming and protect jobs in North Shropshire.

    We urge him to:

    1) Oppose a ‘no-deal’ outcome to the EU Brexit trade negotiations

    2) Support free and frictionless access to EU markets for export

    3) Oppose any deals allowing imports of food that would fail to meet our current world-leading standards of hygiene and animal welfare.

    4) Add concrete legal protections into the Agriculture Bill to keep current protections for food standards, hygiene and animal welfare, in time for the end of the Brexit transition period in December 2020.
